Tripeo – nasza rozmowa

Darko Esser odpowiedział nam na parę pytań przy okazji wydania swojego LP Anipintiros. Czym jest dla ciebie muzyka techno?

Techno jest jednym z najlepszych sposobów na wyrażenie samego siebie. Jako DJ, producent, słuchacz czy tancerz.

Anipintiros? Co to takiego? Brzmi trochę jak greka.

To anagram angielskiego słowa, które było kluczowe dla nagrania mojego albumu.

Powiedziałeś, że Tripeo ma purystyczną tożsamość. Czy to znaczy, że twoja muzyka spod tego aliasu, skierowana jest wyłącznie na parkietowe techno? Czy Darko Esser to także purysta?

Tripeo to wyłącznie techno z skierowaniem na parkiet. Wszystkie dwunastocalówki są zrobione z myślą o dużych, wysokiej jakości soundsystemach. Z albumem starałam się zrobić to samo. Myślę, że wszystkie z jego wycinków mogą być grane w różnych okolicznościach. W przeciwieństwie do muzyki, którą tworzę pod własnym nazwiskiem, bo ta zawiera wszystko od parkietowego grania aż po domowy odsłuch. Darko nie jest ograniczony żadnymi ramami.

Kto według ciebie jest najlepszy na holenderskiej scenie techno w tej chwili?

To proste; mój brat z innej matki – Benny Rodrigues. Właściwie to w mojej opinii najlepszy DJ na świecie! Nawet po 15 latach, wciąż mnie zaskakuje i stanowi moją wielką inspirację. Teraz jeszcze bardziej niż kiedykolwiek wcześniej.

Niektórzy twierdzą, że nagranie LP to potwierdzenie artystycznych standardów producenta. Czy czujesz się w obecnej chwili spełniony czy wciąż nad czymś pracujesz? A może potrzebujesz wakacji?

Nagrywanie mojego nowego albumu przyszło mi z łatwością, ponieważ przez parę ostatnich lat byłem w studio wyjątkowo natchniony. Obudziłem się pewnego dnia stwierdziłem, że to tu i teraz jest najlepszy moment na produkcję. Inspiracja nie opuściła mnie wraz z zakończeniem albumu i ciągle komponuję ogromne ilości muzyki. Mam nadzieję, że dobra passa będzie trwała jeszcze długo, bo studio to moje najulubieńsze miejsce na świecie.

Sam w studio czy otoczony setkami osób na dużej imprezie?

Sam w studio! Tam czuję się zdecydowanie najswobodniej. Wyrażanie emocji wiele lepiej idzie mi za pomocą muzyki, niż za pomocą słów. Przepadam za przebywaniem z ludźmi, których szanuję, ale nie jestem nazbyt uspołeczniony. W sumie to muszę przyznać, że zawsze byłem typem samotnika.

Opowiedz o swoich najlepszych imprezach po obu stronach decków. Co wyróżniało je na tle innych?

Niemożliwe jest podanie odpowiedzi na to pytanie, gdy jest się w branży od ponad 20 lat (śmiech). Mam za sobą tyle imprez zarówno za djką, jak i na parkiecie, że na pewno nie potrafiłbym szczególnie wyróżnić żadnej z nich.

Jak wolisz grywać – blisko domu czy z dala od niego?

Blisko domu zawsze jest super, bo wokoło masz same znajome twarze. Gdy jesteś daleko, to zawsze bardzo zależy od tego, gdzie konkretnie grasz. Jest coś wyjątkowego w występowaniu po drugiej stronie świata, gdy czujesz, że jednoczysz się dzięki swojej muzyce z ludźmi, których nigdy nie poznasz. Także z czysto romantycznych pobudek, spośród tych dwóch opcji, wybieram egzotyczne dla mnie miejsca.

Ulubiony artysta produkujący stricte analogowe techno to…

I znowu trudno będzie mi wyłonić pojedyncze nazwisko. Ostatnimi czasy jednak bardzo inspirujący jest dla mnie Rødhåd .

Który twój trip jako Tripeo jest twoim najbardziej osobistym?

Pierwszy, ponieważ stworzył tożsamość i zainicjował podróż Tripeo.

Opowiedz o swoich planach na przyszłość spod każdego z twoich trzech aliasów.

Szykuje się sporo nowości od Darko Essera, ale od Tripeo także. Zrobiłem masę remiksów, które ukażą się za parę miesięcy w Pole Group, Fracture, Orbis, Radial i ESD. Następnie gdzieś na jesieni wydane zostaną remiksy mojego albumu od Blawana, Bena Simsa, Jamesa Ruskina, Mike’a Parkera, Exiuma i Cadans na dwóch dwunastocalówkach. Jestem tym już teraz bardzo podekscytowany! We wrześniu wypuszczam singiel, w moim ulubionym holenderskim labelu, ale pracuję też nad dwoma singlami dla innych wytwórni, zanim w 2015, wyjdzie 6th Trip od Tripeo. Jako Darko pracuję nad singlem dla ponadczasowej niemieckiej tłoczni i nad remiksami dla Radiala i Bena Longa. Onionboy wciąż jest na chodzie, ale to może się zmienić w każdej chwili. Tak jak już wcześniej mówiłem – jestem w doskonałej studyjnej formie i chcę dać z siebie wszystko, póki tylko mogę!

What is techno to you?

Techno is one of the best ways for me to express myself. Wether it’s as a DJ, producer, listener or dancer.

Anipintiros? What the hell is it?! It sounds a bit greek to me.

It’s an anagram for an English word that was quintessential for creating the album.

You said that Tripeo has the purist identity. Does it mean that you’re straight. dancefloor techno like? What about Darko Esser? Is he a purist too?

Tripeo is only techno, that’s aimed at the dancefloor. All twelves have been made to play out on huge, HQ PA’s. With the album I tried to do the same. I think all cuts can be played out under different circumstances. The music I make under my own name varies a lot, from the dancefloor to homelistening. Darko is not bound by genres.

Who’s best on the dutch techno scene at the very moment in your opinion?

That’s easy: my brother from another mother Benny Rodrigues. He’s my favorite DJ in the world actually. Even after 15 years he never seizes to amaze me and inspires me more then ever.

Some say that recording an album is like confirming artist’s standards. Do you feel fullfilled now or you’re still on the run? Or maybe you need a rest?

The new album came about organically, because I have been so inspired in the studio the last couple of years. I woke up one day and decided to go for it. The inspiration hasn’t stopped after I finished the album, so I’m making tons of music still as we speak. I hope it won’t stop for a long time to come tbh, my studio is my favorite place to be.

Alone in the studio or surrounded by people at the big party?

Alone in the studio. It’s where I feel most free and comfortable. I can express myself better in music then in words. I like being around people I like, but I’m not the most social person in the world. I’ve always been kind of a loner.

Tell about your best party as a clubber and a best party a a DJ. What was so special about them?

These kind of questions are impossible to answer after more then 20 years in the game haha. I’ve had so many memorable parties both on the dancefloor as well as in the booth that I can’t single one out anymore..

Playing close to your hometown or somewhere far from there?

Hometown gigs are great because close friends are there. Far away really depends on the destination. There’s something special about being on the other side of the world, having an incredible moment in time with people you would have never met otherwise. So for romantic reasons I’ll chose far away.

Your favorite artist doing some classical techno stuff on analogue machines is:

Also quite impossible to single out a favorite here haha. Recently Rødhåd’s jam based workflow and ethics have been very inspiring to me.

What’s the number of your most intimate ‚Trip’ as Tripeo?

The first one because it created Tripeo’s identity and journey.

Tell me about your plans as Darko and as Tripeo. Or maybe you want to reaktivate your third alias – Onionboy – too?

There’s a lot of stuff coming for both for Tripeo as well as Darko Esser. As Tripeo I’ve made a lot of remixes that are coming out the next few months on Pole Group, Fracture, Orbis, Radial and ESD. After that there will be remixes from album tracks on 2 twelve inches in the fall/winter from Blawan, Ben Sims, James Ruskin, Mike Parker, Exium and Cadans. I’m extremely excited about that as you can imagine! A single will come out in September on my favorite Dutch label, can’t tell which yet though and I’m working on 2 more singles for other labels before I will release Sixth Trip in 2015. As Darko Esser I’m working on a single for a timeless German imprint and I’ve done remixes for Radial and Ben Long. Onionboy is still on hold, but that could change at any given moment. As I said I’m having the best time in the studio right now and I’m making the most of it!
